Turbulence

Turbulence is a young singer and deejay currently working out of the studio of producer Philip “Fatis” Burell, and while information on him is somewhat difficult to track down, this appears to be his solo debut. Previously, he has worked with such notables as Sizzla and Prince Malachi on various Xterminator projects. His considerable talent as both a singer (showcased here to particularly good effect on “Living in Sufferation” and “Where Are Your Wings?”) and a deejay (“One Gun,” “Naw Beg No Friend”) makes him an artist worth keeping an eye on.

His focus on cultural concerns also reflects a growing movement in dancehall reggae away from the slack lyrics of the 1980s and 1990s and back to a more roots-oriented approach. As usual, Fatis has provided top-flight rhythms for Turbuence to ride, some of them strictly dancehall, others based on more traditional rockers and one-drop beats.
